During the three-day event, 11 thousand people visited the venue of the 12th Festival and 15th National Contest of Pisco.
Payet, Ica producer, won the first place with its Quebranta variety.
“Permanent quality improvement was in the spotlight of this event,” said Rafael Rey, Minister of Production.
The Minister commended the constant innovation made by pisco producers, which was the main characteristic seen during the three days of the event. “This festival has proved a constant quality improvement and, in my opinion, the international positioning of our pisco is guaranteed,” he said.
Mr. Rey also commented that 11 thousand people, mainly families, attended the three-day event, an attendance 25% larger than that of 2006. The event was not held in 2007 due to the earthquake.
Similarly, the number of participating samples also set a new record. “The number of samples was 308, and came from five regions: Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Moquegua and Tacna. The competing

pisco variations were Quebranta, Mollar, Uvinas, Negra Criolla, Italia, Torontel, Muscat, Albilla, Acholado, non-aromatic Green Must and aromatic Green Must,” Mr. Rey said.
Thirty four medals were awarded, including the great medals of medals, gold medals, silver medals and bronze medals. The winner of winners was Agromistral, from Ica, owned by Mr. Guillermo Payet, and producer of Payet Pisco, who won this award with his Quebranta pisco. “Ica was the region with more winning companies. They won 16 medals (5 golds) followed by Lima with 16 medals (4 golds), and Tacana with 3,” he explained.
The gold winner in the Negra Criollla pisco variety was the Asociación de Productores de Caravelí, from Arequipa, owned by Ms. Giovanna Beltran. El Sarcay de Azpitia cellar, from Lima, obtained the gold medal in the Mollar variety; while the Lima-based company owned by Carlos Sanchez Alcala won the medal in the Uvinas variety.
In the Italia pisco variety, the winner was the company of Mr. Tomas Salas Alarcon, from Moquegua; Torontel pisco gold medal was awarded to Agromistral for its Payet Pisco; Moscatel pisco medal was won by Ica-based Las Falcas owned by Marlon Grimaldo, with his Estirpe Peruana brand; and the Albilla pisco variety medal was awarded to Grupo Lama for its 3 Navajas brand.
The Acholado pisco variety medal was won by Ica-based Luis Pisconte Bravo company, with its Clásico Iqueño brand; the non-aromatic Green Must pisco was won by Cesar Benito Bohorquez’s company, from Ica, with its Don Benito brand; in the aromatic Green Must variety the gold medal was granted to Lima-based Zijals Agro, owned by Luis Huaynas, with its Pisco El Elixir brand.
Mr. Rey concluded that the efforts made by the Ministry to position pisco in the domestic and global market will continue in the months to follow, through the promotion of fairs and festivals, working in coordination with the private sector, in order to make of pisco the symbol of flagship products. Finally, he thanked the National Commission of Pisco (CONAPISCO) for its hard work during this Festival and Contest, also acknowledging INDECOPI, Wong Supermarkets, the Institute of Wine and Pisco of Universidad San Martin, the Municipality of Santiago de Surco, among others.
